The Indonesian National Standard ( SNI ) is the only nationally applicable standard in Indonesia, formulated by the SNI Formulation Technical Committee and established by the National Standardization Agency (BSN). Implementation of SNI is essentially voluntary. However, to protect the public interest, national security, national economic development, and environmental preservation, the government may make certain SNI mandatory.

A product that has met the SNI will be given the SNI Mark. If SNI for a particular product has been made mandatory, products that do not have the SNI mark may not be distributed or traded in the territory of the Republic of Indonesia. While for a product that is outside the mandatory list, the SNI Mark functions as a sign that the product has advantages (value added), but does not prohibit the circulation of similar products that are not marked with SNI.
