Regarding SNI Toys, BSN: Customs Didn't Read the Rules

Body Standardization National (BSN) revealed that there were errors in the socialization of the rules impose toy which must have Indonesian National Standards (SNI) if it exceeds a certain quota. Head of the BSN Standard Implementation System Center, Wahyu Purbowasito, stated that this problem occurred due to a lack of understanding of the regulations on the part of the Directorate General of Customs and Excise.

Wahyu explained that the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) as the rule maker already knows the provisions clearly. However, the Customs and Excise have not read or understood the regulation in its entirety so that there is miscommunication in its implementation.

To overcome this, BSN plans to build intensive communication with all stakeholders so that the perception of SNI obligations on imported toys can be the same. The goal is to prevent any more misunderstandings that harm the public or business actors.

The regulation regarding mandatory SNI certification for imported toys aims to protect consumers, especially children, from... product dangerous and maintain the competitiveness of local products. However, its implementation has experienced obstacles due to the lack of synchronization of information between related agencies such as the Ministry of Industry and Customs.

BSN continues to conduct outreach so that the public and business actors understand the importance of national standards for the safety of children's toy products in Indonesia.
