Synergy of BSN and Ministry of Industry to Facilitate MSMEs Applying SNI
The interest in cycling has hit Indonesian society again. The rise of people cycling is followed by an increase in bicycle manufacturers and importers. Of course, regulations are needed so that bicycles circulating in Indonesia are safe for users.
To ensure public safety in cycling, the government has made mandatory implementation Standar Indonesian National (SNI) 1049:2008 Bicycle – safety requirements against product two-wheeled bicycle. This regulation applies to all bicycle products marketed in Indonesia, both local and imported products.
In order for local products, especially MSMEs to compete with imported products, a strong synergy is needed between the government and business actors. Currently, Agency Standardization National (BSN) synergizes with the Ministry of Industry in facilitating the application of SNI to PT. Kreuz Indonesia, MSME bicycle craftsmen from Bandung who produce folding bicycles with the Kreuz brand.
During his visit to PT. Kreuz Indonesia, Head of BSN, Kukuh S. Achmad stated that it is the government's obligation to support the growth and development of MSMEs. “We are all united to help SMEs. The existence of the Proudly Made in Indonesia movement, standards should not be forgotten, TKDN should not be forgotten. Moreover, this SNI (bicycle) is mandatory. We (the government) will definitely support it," said Kukuh in Bandung, Thursday (7/10/2020).
At first, PT. Kreuz Indonesia is a manufacturer of bicycle equipment such as pannier and touring bags. But unexpectedly, when promoting their bag products by bringing their own folding bicycles as a promotional medium, most visitors are more interested in the bicycles that are displayed. Finally, bicycle orders arrived and made PT Kreuz Indonesia expand its business to become a folding bicycle manufacturer.
Owners of PT. Kreuz Indonesia, Yudi Yudiantara, said that due to limited equipment and space, currently Kreuz is only able to produce 20 bicycles. even though orders have reached 500 units for 2023, and there are already 1000 people waiting list for 2024. To work around this, Kreuz has formed a partnership with one of the factories in the Lembang area. "Next month we will start manufacturing with a production target of 200 units per month," said Yudi.
Yudi said, for the Kreuz folding bike model that is currently being made, it is the result of a folding bike modification process that is currently being favored by many people. "We modified with at least 5 striking differences," he said. Yudi said that up to 70% of his products use domestic components. "We still import some components, because currently there are no components with the same quality from local products," he said.
He also admitted that previously he did not understand the regulation on the obligation to fulfill SNI for bicycles. After Kreuz . bike booming in the world of social media, in July PT. Kreuz Indonesia received guidance and training in bicycle production from the Center for Materials and Technical Goods (B4T) and the Center for Metals and Machinery of the Ministry of Industry. Then, PT. Kreuz Indonesia also submitted a request for guidance on the application of SNI to BSN. "Alhamdulillah, the Ministry of Industry and BSN really support us," said Yudi.
BSN has committed to facilitate certification SNI to PT. Indonesian Kreuz. The SNI certification process can also be said to be a matter of time. Product Certification Agency is ready.
