Green Industry Standardization From the description in points 2.2 to 2.5 above, the so-called green industry is an industry that produces eco-products from the design, procurement and use of materials, the process of production, distribution, use and maintenance of products until they become waste/damage by implementing the principles of zero emissions, pollution, waste, accidents, time, low energy use (electricity, water, wind, oil), low carbon, so as to reduce costs and generate the highest margins and increase competitiveness. For each stage of the process, it is better to have measurable indicators to meet the requirements as a green industry. These requirements and indicators can be stated in the form of limit values or standards. Especially for waste from the production process, there are provisions from institutions that handle threshold values for liquid, solid and air waste. Examples of standards that can be applied in manufacturing/industrial activities towards a green industry are: Ø ISO 14000 (Environmental Management System) ); Ø ISO 26000 (Social Responsibility), Ø EU (Ristriction Hazardous Substance/RoHS & Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment /WEEE toward reuse & recycle), Ø British Standard (Publicly Available Specification/PAS toward lifecycle GHG Emission) Ø Green Label : Green seal , energy star, ATIS, EURO Ø USA & Europe (California proposition 65) Ø Japan & Europe (Oeko-Tex Std 100)
How to Manage Green Industry Certification?
The Ministry of Industry encourages green industry patterns as an effort to boost the competitiveness of Indonesian products to pass export.
Companies/industry that have implemented the principles of green industry will benefit, namely the efficiency of raw materials, energy and water, so that waste and emissions are minimized. With a more efficient production process, it will also increase product competitiveness.
In accordance with Law no. 3 of 2014, the Industrial Certification Center, as the appointed Green Industry Certification Agency, supports and is ready to contribute in implementing the Green Industry.
Green Industry Certification Process Flow 9001:2015
In general, you can see the flow of the Green Industry certification process as follows:
- Certification Application
Companies that will apply for certification must prepare the required documents in advance. These documents include business establishment permits, company NPWP, then complete company profile details starting from name, company address, management structure. The next document is a diagram of the company's production process. the contents are reports on mass balance, energy, water and other processes in the production line up to how the company deals with waste and its processing.
Then, what should not be forgotten is a copy of the company's SOP and the company's strategic planning in implementing green industry standards.
All these documents must be prepared properly. Not only in the form of document sheets, but in actual conditions it must also be applied. So simply, the application for green industry certification must be preceded by the application of green industry standards first.
- Review of documents and requirements
Documents are submitted to the institution authorized to issue green industry certification. These documents will then be reviewed and checked for administrative completeness by the agency.
- Field assessment
After a complete administrative review, the certification body will conduct a field audit by visiting the company applying for the certification. The auditor from this certification body will check the suitability of the submitted documents with the actual implementation in the company.
Therefore, before registering, the company is expected to have implemented the green industry standard.
- Certificate decision
After conducting an administrative and field review and analyzing if there are no problems, the certification body will make a final decision on the green industry certificate.
- Certificate issuance
Issuance of this certificate is given after the institution obtains approval from the Ministry of Industry for the decision to issue a certificate. After a company obtains a green industry certificate, the company will receive a green industry logo which may be placed on product packaging, on company headers and on all company promotional media. This certificate is valid for the next 4 years.
- Supervision audit
These audits are carried out regularly to ensure that the certified company continues to implement green industry standards during the validity period of the certificate. That is 4 years. If it is found that there is a violation of green industry standards even though the certificate is still valid, then the company can be subject to sanctions according to the law.
- Certificate renewal
Before the expiration date of the certificate of death (4 years), the company is expected to re-apply to renew the green industry certificate to the authorized institution.
